Basmati Rice Recipe:

  • Basmati Rice - 1 cup
  • Water - 1.5 cups to 2 cups (Check my notes)
Preparation Method::
  1. Take basmati rice in a bowl , rinse it well then add water and soak it for atleast 30-45mins.
  2. Drain water and add basmati rice to pressure cooker.I soaked it for around 40mins so added 1 and 1/2 cups water.
  3. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles , for first one whistle you can cook in medium flame then lower in low medium and give 3 more whistles.Switch off.Let the pressure completely release by itself.Then open and set aside for 5-10mins.
  4. Fluff it with fork.If you are planning to make fried rice then add a tsp of olive oil and fluff it up.

Basmati rice elongates to almost twice its original length on cooking, but does not fatten significantly. The grain is long (usually 6.61 to 7.50mm) or extra long (more than 7.50mm in length and 2mm in breadth).

When cooked, Basmati's texture retains its firmness, even though it assumes tenderness without splitting, and unlike other rice, it is non-sticky thanks to the amylose content in the rice.

The aroma in Basmati emanates from a cocktail of 100 compounds - hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes and esters. A particular molecule of note is 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline.
